Alternature - Jester's silver coin
Country - Estonia Player- Jarmo
A jester made the queen laugh He felt himself the luckiest man When she smiled and placed A silver coin in his hand "Here, my man, for a task well done You made us laugh; now you may run Go out there, out on the town To have your share of fun!" He held the coin And flipped the coin And asked himself then: heads or tails? And finally he made up his mind A blacksmith had the coin Gladly the coin decides The twists and turns of our lives But what if once it didn't land on either side? The blacksmith beat his hammer sore The jester had the finest sword The man behind the anvil Had a generous award "Tell me, man, where did you find A silver coin so rare and fine? May the Gods always smile Upon your life!" He held the coin And flipped the coin And asked himself then: heads or tails? And finally he made up his mind A maiden had the coin Gladly the coin decides The twists and turns of our lives But what if once it didn't land on either side? A handsome maiden, young and shy Caught the blacksmith's loving eye Not a single day went by Without her in his mind |
He gave the girl the silver coin And said with caring in his voice: "You're the one to fill the void Within my lone heart!" She held the coin And flipped the coin And asked herself then: heads or tails? And finally she made up her mind The blacksmith had her love Gladly the coin
decides |
Player's comments: | This Estonian group may seem unknown to most
people, but maybe the song "Diamond of night" rings a bell. It was the Estonian
entry in the 1999 Eurovision song contest.Even the title track appeared in the Estonian
contest in 2000, but came in 2nd. The singers name is Evelyn Samuel, but she's marketed
under the name "Alternature" now. The titel track has even been remix for
international use and the song "Let me stay" has become "Northern
gold".Not an improvement, but these songs are so strong, that they survive. The genre
can be called a cross between Enya and One More Time. The melodies are certainly not
without celtic influences,as the songs "For I belong to you" and "Jesters
silver coin" reakes of Irish folkmusic. It's hard to tell that Alternature is from Estonia, as they have made a truly international and very beautiful record. |
