Maja Nikolic  -  Otrove (You - poison)

Country - Yugoslavia (Serbia & Montenegro)     Player - Miroslav

Zar je tebi malo sta sam dala?
Imenom sam tvojim sebe zvala
Ali tebi tako malo znaci
Neka druga sada ti se svlaci

Sve sto taknes mislis da je tvoje
Ukrao si ovo srce moje
Otrove!

Uzimas, pa ostavljas
Ujedes, pa onda ljubis
Malo ona, malo ja
Igras igru da ne gubis
Dobro, dobro, dobro znaj
Da za ljubav treba dvoje
Kad na kraju budes sam
Bice kasno, pile moje

Uzimas, pa ostavljas
Ujedes, pa onda ljubis
Malo ona, malo ja
Igras igru da ne gubis
Dobro, dobro, dobro znaj
Da za ljubav treba dvoje
Kad na kraju budes sam
Bice kasno, pile moje

Tek si dos'o, a vec ti se sprema
Kada odes mene k'o da nema
Moju srecu pokrila je tama
Kad' je tako, bolje da sam sama

Sve sto taknes mislis da je tvoje
Ukrao si ovo srce moje
Otrove!

Uzimas, pa ostavljas
Ujedes, pa onda ljubis
Malo ona, malo ja
Igras igru da ne gubis
Dobro, dobro, dobro znaj
Da za ljubav treba dvoje
Kad na kraju budes sam
Bice kasno, pile moje

Uzimas, pa ostavljas

Is what I gave to you little?
I named myself after you
But it means so little to you
Another is undressing for you now

You think everything you touch is yours
You stole this heart of mine
You poison!

You're taking and leaving
Biting first and then kissing
A little of her, a little of me
Playing the game not to lose
Know this well
Love needs two
When you end up alone
It'll be too late, my darling

You're taking and leaving
Biting first and then kissing
A little of her, a little of me
Playing the game not to lose
Know this well
Love needs two
When you end up alone
It'll be too late, my darling

You just arrived, and already want to go
When you leave, I'm as good as gone
My happiness is covered by darkness
When it's like that, I'm better off on my own

You think everything you touch is yours
You stole this heart of mine
You poison!

You're taking and leaving
Biting first and then kissing
A little of her, a little of me
Playing the game not to lose
Know this well
Love needs two
When you end up alone
It'll be too late, my darling

You're taking and leaving
Biting first and then kissing
A little of her, a little of me
Playing the game not to lose
Know this well
Love needs two
When you end up alone
It'll be too late, my darling

You're taking and leaving
Biting first and then kissing
A little of her, a little of me
Playing the game not to lose
Know this well
Love needs two
When you end up alone
It'll be too late, my darling

(You're taking and leaving)

(A little of her, a little of me)
(Playing the game not to lose)
Know this well
Love needs two

It'll be too late, my darling

Player's comments: Marija Nikolic was born in Nish in southern Serbia on April 11th 1975. She is 156cm tall (5'1"). Her favorite singer is Randy Crawford.
She appeared on the Yugoslav music scene in 1994, on festivals, of course. Her debut was a victory on 'Mesam 1994' in Belgrade with  'Odlazi' (Go away) at the age 18 while she was still in school, followed very shortly with another victory on 'Beogradsko prolece 1994' with 'Napustio si sve' (You Left Everything). Those two songs were very nice, classic ballads, and she was wearing crinolines while singing them.
She continued with successful appearances on various festivals in Yugoslavia during the following years, but she didn't have any more victories. Her debut album 'Sad me pronadji' (Find Me Now) was released in 1995 but it went almost completely unnoticed. Even so, several songs have made it to the radio and TV stations - 'Vruce, mokro, klizavo' (Hot, Wet, Slippery), with a great rock remix, 'Kao da sam luda' (As If I'm Barmy)... Another song was a sort-of-hit - from 'Mesam 1996' - 'Svaki sam tren tebi sudjena' (I'm Destined For You Every Moment), a song that very much resembles Toni Braxton's 'Un-break My Heart', especially the lyrics.
Then in 1997 - a complete change of style... In Budva festival she sang 'Uzmi me' (Take Me), a song that is ethno-pop or even folk one... After that she dyed her hair blond, removed most of her clothing, released her second album 'Uzmi me' (Take Me) in 1998, and became a huge hit. Songs like 'Uzmi me', 'Led ledeni' (Icy Ice), 'Varali me svi' (Everyone Cheated On Me), 'Moram biti njegova' (I Must Belong To Him), 'Ako verujes' (If You Believe) were on A-playlists for a long long time. The only song that had any resemblance left with previous Maja Nikolic, was a mourning cover of Maja Odzaklijevska's 'Vise nisi moj' (You're Not Mine Anymore) (The original won 'Beogradsko prolece 1995').
After the big success came a downfall. She got married, and gave birth to her son, and then she got divorced. She quarreled with many other Yugoslav singers and media people... Then came her third album in 2000, ironically titled 'Iz inata' (Out Of Spite). This album was not nearly as successful as the previous one. The video for the first single 'Dragane' was almost banned. Only several songs made it to the playlists, including 'Otrove' (You-Poison), 'Bez stida' (Shameless) and 'Tamo daleko' (There, Far Away) - a cover of Zorana's 'Mesam 1996' song, with changed lyrics, made for the patriotic campaign during the bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999.
In 2001, she made appearances on several festivals, without much success. This year she moved to USA, changed her name to Maya Novack, and now she is preparing a new album in English, which is to be released by one of the mayor publishers (Sony, Disney and Warner Bros. are mentioned) in USA. Her new producer is Matt Warren, who also works with Whitney Houston. She changed her style again, and, fingers crossed, I hope it will do her good... There'll be a mixture of styles from jazz and soul to blues, rock and ethno-pop. This new album is due to be released in January 2003.
